Its organizers say that promoting the country as a fashion tourist destination is the main focus of RD Fashion Week.
The thirteenth edition of the Dominican Republic Fashion Week will develop this year, as part of its activities, several social inclusion programs. Among its novelties, it stands out that thirty people deprived of liberty will present designs created by themselves in the different penitentiary centers of the country.
The fashion presentation of the inmates will be the parade “For a second chance”, sponsored by the alliance with the Attorney General’s Office and the sponsorship of the Banreservas Volunteering.
The announcement was made by the designer Melkis Díaz, CEO of the RDFW, who explained that other parades with a human and social component of inclusion will be in the following categories: people in wheelchairs, street children, older adults, large sizes, people with different abilities etc.
About Fashion Week 2022
The City of Santo Domingo will be the fashion destination during the celebration of the thirteenth edition of the Dominican Republic Fashion Week, which will take place from August 30 to September 4 in the Epic Center room of the JW Marriot Hotel located in Blue Mall, place chosen by the organization to turn it once again into the home of Fashion Week.
The designer Melkis Díaz, CEO of the RDFW, who pointed out that promoting the Dominican Republic as a “Fashion Destination” projects the generic vision of the event in which fashion, tourism and inclusion converge, giving continuity to the work that, for two years, it has been carried out hand in hand with people and companies that promote human value regardless of ethnicity, social position, physical condition, state of vulnerability and other factors that influence social discrimination.
“Fashion is evolving very quickly, added Melkis Díaz, and this year it will have an internationally renowned academic ally, the Marangoni Institute, which will participate with an important presentation by a group of four designers who have graduated from the prestigious institute, as well as a conference “Fashion in the metaverse”, aimed at fashion students, designers, journalists, marketers, bloggers, influencers and all fashion lovers who want to learn about new technologies applied to the industry.
Thanks to these contributions, the Dominican Republic Fashion Week continues to consolidate itself as a fashion event with an international dimension, projecting firsts and novelties to continue training and promoting our emerging talents, who this year will have an important participation in a tribute contest to the great Dominican designer Oscar De la Renta, in which an emerging designer from each province will create a piece inspired by iconic designs by the famous designer.
This contest will feature important celebrities and fashion experts as jurors, such as José Forteza, editor-in-chief of Vogue Latin America magazine, Kika Rocha, fashion director of People en Español, Claudia Torres of HOLA TV and professors from the Marangoni Institute, who The winning designer will be awarded a scholarship to study a specialty in Fashion.
This year, the Dominican Republic Fashion Week will have Colombia as the guest country where, in collaboration with the Embassy of Colombia in the Dominican Republic, 4 outstanding Colombian designers will be presented to close each day of the event. Likewise, designers from Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Peru, Miami, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Mexico will present their collections, along with the most outstanding national designers: Giannina Azar, Cristian Lagares, Bianna Candelario, Jezmin Serulle, Vladimir Calpo, Tiffany Fermín, Lorenny Solano , María Calderón, Mariela Peña among others.
“Fashion is a creative activity that provides resources to all those involved, Fashion Week, regardless of the country where it is held, represents an opportunity for local businesses, especially hotels, transportation system, restaurants, shops, beauty salons , among others. Melkis Diaz concluded.
